uo-asda: This Weeks Meeting

This weeks meeting will wrap up the poster contest last week we had only 4 entries but we really want to show off out talent and skill so we expanded the contest for another week.
Bring your posters on a thumbdrive or email a jpg to asda@uoregon.edu if you have a design to submit.

This week we should hopefully be showing off some prototypes for the machine project. (I will be bringing one) If you have an idea for a product to sell try to have it prototyped by the end of the week to show off at the meeting. I'm also going to discuss possibly having an information session for the machine project sometime in the near future to help spread the word.

We will also talk about marketing that machine project and possibly updating the website ect.

As always if you have anything else you want to talk about at the meeting, guest speakers, portfolio reviews, events, gallery shows ect please bring them up either in an email or at the meetings.

See you this week

Subject: graphic designer needed

Job Announcement:

We are looking for a student to design four promotional materials for the
Sexual Wellness Advocacy Team (SWAT) and for Sexual Violence Prevention &
Education. We need a poster design, two different "postcard" designs, and a
pamphlet with resources and information.

We are willing to discuss pay with a student, but last year the student who

again. We want the promotional materials completed by the end of fall term

Located on the second floor of Lawrence Hall, just outside the PODS office in room 264, this is a space dedicated to visually beautifying the school and showcasing the talents of AAA students. We are looking for your best creative efforts (paintings, photography, drawings, mixed media, jewelry, luminaire designs, etc) to fill the space. We have three spaces designated. Two measure 30"x 38" and 1 space measures 29.5" x 29.5" (note: this is the maximum size allowable). Art will be rotated monthly through June to give many students the opportunity to display their work.

uo-asda: Meeting Tomorrow

Hello Again,

For Tomorrows meeting we are going to talk some more about posters and website and I will be gathering a list of resources you can go to to help get you started. There is only 1 week left for the poster (no deadline for the website yet) and so far there are no submissions so get working on this and make a great portfolio piece and help ASDA at the same time.

Also on the table is machine project. I'm still going for Papercraft Professors as the best idea so far. I have some templates for the boxes printed out so we can brainstorm ideas.

There is also another job that I will be talking about it looks like a website update with a little graphics work.

PODS is also planning a Student Groups Fair what we should be a part of if anyone wants to be a part of that let me know.

Last on the list is setting dates and times for the first photo night and getting a list of volunteers.

See you at the meeting tomorrow.

uo-asda: First Meeting Notes and New Job

First thanks to everyone who attended the first meeting we talked about a few things,

1. ASDA needs some new posters they should be 11x7 with .25 margin all around.

if you want to do a poster but don't quite know where to start you can take a look at
psdtuts.com
vectuts.com
bittbox.com
gomediazine.com
notcot.com

these site have a lot of inspiring pieces and free design tools ect to help you get started.

2. ASDA also needs a new website. The new website will most likely be powered by wordpress (wordpress.org) you can check there for themes that other designers have made for it.

What we are looking for is a Photoshop mock up of how you think the web page should look once it is finished. The site should be 960px with a main content area sidebar header and footer areas.

you can find some tutorials for mocking up websites in photoshop at psdtuts.com you can find other inspiration and resources at bittbox.com and gomediazone.com. you can look at other well designed pages at favup.com

3. ASDA is considering making merchandise to sell the machine project. some initial ideas include papercraft professors, good/bad karma cards, and limited edition posters. If you have other idea you would like to include just send me an email (asda@uoregon.edu) and we can talk about it at the next meeting.

4. Photo night where students can bring in work to get photographed by ASDA students is another project we want to get underway. we will need posters for this as well as volunteers to manage projects, take photos transfer photos and give people a rundown on how to use the photos.

we are thinking about doing these nights on a regular basic what do you think is best?

5. Louie has a web design job for us for Adaptive Sports Club/Accessibility Student Union

ASDA Design Firm,
I met with the student coordinator for the Adaptive Sports Club, and
leader of the Accessibility Student Union tonight. He is interested in
getting a website up to represent both groups, and looking for someone
to build the sites. Would be a great opportunity for someone to add to
their portfolio, and add a great line to their resume. I do not know
if this would be a paying gig or not.

The contact for this job is Eli Ettinger, eettinge@uoregon.edu

Hope to see you at the meeting tomorrow.
-Louie

Thats all for this week if you have any questions or want some more information about something just email asda@uoregon.edu and I'll get back to you.
